We love our tide clock! Made from 3mm sustainable birch ply and laser engraved with our beach, mountain and sun design, this tide clock gives you that summer feeling all year round. With wooden hand and the option to add your own personalised message on the reverse, underneath the mechanism.
Made in Devon from sustainably sourced timber, our tide clocks are the perfect gift for any beach go-er!
The clock rotates in time with the tides, so you will always know when the next high or low tide will be at your local beach. So whether you’re avid rockpool-ers, surfers, kite surfers, windsurfers or beach walkers, our tide clock will not only be very useful for making the most of your beachlife, it will look great on your wall too!
Important information:
Maintaining Accuracy:
The average time between high tides is 12 hours, 25 minutes and 14 seconds. Although 14 seconds may seem an inconsequential amount of time, it actually accumulates to 15 minutes a month and can cause your clock to become out of sync. Therefore, it’s best to check your Tide Clock against a tide table periodically to make sure that it’s still running accurately.
Influences such as wind, atmospheric pressure, and storms can impact the timing/height of tides. Therefore, your Tide Clock may not have pinpoint accuracy every day, however, on average, it will follow the tidal schedule with consistency.
Will a tide clock work for your area?:
There are some geographical locations around the world that don’t have consistent tides and therefore tide clocks will not track the tides effectively. Therefore, it’s best to research before buying one. In the UK there are some areas where a tide clock will not be accurate – For example The Thames and the area’s that surround Southampton and The Isle of Wight (as they have double tides) .
How to set:
Consult a local tide table or online resource and search for the port that is closest to you. Set the Tide Clock when high tide is occurring at your chosen port. (Ideally, on a full moon, as this is when high tide is at its peak).
When setting, rotate the dial on the mechanism to move the Tide Clock hand clockwise to ‘HIGH’, then insert a brand new AA battery.
